King Sporty
Noel George Williams, known professionally as King Sporty, was a Jamaican reggae
DJ, musician, and producer. Born on September 19, 1943 in Port Antonio, Jamaica,
he began his career as a studio sideman and disc jockey under the tutelage of
Clement Dodd at Studio One. In 1965, he released the single “El Cid” with Justin
Yap. He released the singles “Inspiration” (1969) and “DJ Special” (1970) before
relocating to Miami, Florida, in the early 1970s. There, he founded the record
labels Tashamba and Konduko, producing reggae, funk, disco, and electro music.
