Lamb of God, formed in Richmond, Virginia in 1994, emerged from the
college‑based collaboration of bassist John Campbell, drummer Chris Adler, and
guitarists Mark Morton and Matt Conner, later joined by vocalist Randy Blythe
and guitarist Willie Adler. The band’s early releases under the name
Burn the Priest-Burn the Priest (1999) and New American Gospel
(2000)-established their groove‑metal foundation. In 2003 the group released As
