Laura Smith, born on March 14, 1952, in London, Ontario, was a Canadian folk
singer-songwriter. Encouraged by poet Margaret Avison, Smith started performing
in local coffeehouses before moving to Toronto in 1975. Her debut album, Laura
Smith, was released in 1989 under CBC Variety Recordings. In 1994, her second
album, B'tween the Earth and My Soul, earned her two East Coast Music Awards
(Female Artist and Album of the Year) and two Juno nominations. She collaborated
