Lia de Itamaracá, born Maria Madalena Correia do Nascimento on January 12, 1944,
on Itamaracá Island, Brazil, is a renowned ciranda dancer, singer, and composer
known as the “Queen of Ciranda.” She began participating in ciranda circles as a
child and worked as a school lunch lady before gaining recognition as an artist
in the 1960s. Her debut album, A Rainha da Ciranda, was released in 1977. She
achieved national prominence after performing at Abril pro Rock in 1998 and
