Los Ribereños are a legendary Peruvian psychedelic cumbia group founded in the
late 1960s by guitarist and vocalist Juan Benigno Tapia, known artistically as
John Beni. After starting his first band The Peruvian Boys and touring Ecuador
under the name Perú y Mi Son, Beni returned to Lima determined to break into the
local scene. Signing with the iconic label Virrey, the group officially became
Los Ribereños and quickly gained recognition for their unique fusion of
Colombian cumbia, Cuban guaracha, and electric guitar-driven Amazonian rhythms.
