Luiz Avellar
João Luiz de Avellar, also known as Luiz Avellar, was born on April 7, 1956, in
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and is a pianist and composer. He began playing the
piano as a child and later studied in New York City. His career took off when he
arranged songs and played on albums by notable artists such as Gal Costa,
Djavan, and Milton Nascimento. He collaborated with musicians like Nico
Assumpção, Vitor Assis Brasil, Hélio Delmiro, Wayne Shorter, and Toots
Thielemans. In 2000, he released his album Em movimento under Savalla Records.
