Maria Alice is a Cape Verdean singer born on October 23, 1971, on the island of
Sal, Cape Verde. Her vocal talent attracted the attention of musicians passing
through the island, leading to a move to Lisbon, Portugal, where she performed
at clubs including the Ritz Club and B.Leza. She collaborated with clarinetist
Luís Morais and released her debut album, Ilha d'Sal (1993). In 1995, she
recorded her second album, D'Zemcontre (1998), with local musicians in Lisbon.
Her subsequent albums include Lágrima e Súplica (2002) and Tocatina (2008). She
