María Victoria Gutiérrez Cervantes, known professionally as María Victoria, is a
Mexican singer and actress born in 1923 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Her
first singles, "Mentira", "Soy feliz", "Estoy a solas", and "Todavía no me
muero", were released in 1950. Her debut EP, Latin America-vol. 1, followed in
1951, and her first album, Mexican sweetheart, was released in 1957. Her impact
extended to film during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, starring in movies
such as Canto a las Americas (1942). She earned the nickname "la Sirena de
México".
