Marjorie Gwendolen Thomas, also known as Marjorie Thomas, born on June 5, 1923,
in Sunderland, England, was an English opera and oratorio singer. She studied
piano from age five and later won a scholarship to the Royal Manchester College
of Music, focusing on singing under Elsie Thurston. Thomas debuted
professionally in 1945 with the Hallé Orchestra, performing Edward Elgar's Sea
Pictures. She sang roles such as Konchakovna in Alexander Borodin's Prince Igor
