Mary Stallings, born in 1939 in San Francisco, California, is an American jazz
vocalist. She began singing in her local church choir and by her teens was
performing in nightclubs such as the Hungry i and The Purple Onion. Her early
career included collaborations with notable musicians like Ben Webster, Cal
Tjader, Earl Hines, and Dizzy Gillespie. In 1962, she released Cal Tjader Plays,
Mary Stallings Sings for Fantasy Records. Throughout the 1960s, she toured
