Maury Alan Yeston, born October 23, 1945, in Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S., is
an American composer, lyricist, and music theorist. His early musical training
began at age five with piano lessons from his mother, leading to a composition
award by age seven. Yeston's interest in musical theatre was sparked at age ten
when he saw My Fair Lady on Broadway. Yeston's breakthrough came with the
Broadway musical Nine, for which he won Tony Awards for Best Musical and Best
