Max D Barnes
Max Duane Barnes, born July 24, 1936, in Hard Scratch, Iowa, was an American
country singer and songwriter whose career began after working as a semi‑truck
driver. In 1973, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, signing with Ovation
Records and later Polydor and Country Roads Records. His songwriting catalog
includes hits such as "Chiseled in Stone", "Look at Us", "Drinkin' and
Dreamin'", and "Ten Feet Away." He earned two Country Music Association Song of
the Year awards in 1988 and 1992, a Grammy nomination in 1989, and 18 BMI
