Midwife
A multi-instrumentalist from Denver, Colorado, Madeline Elizabeth Johnston is
also known as Mariposa and Sister Grotto. A self-taught guitarist, she then took
the name Midwife and produced the album Like Author, Like Daughter (2017),
accompanied by Tucker Theodore, followed by Forever (2020), Luminol (2021) and
No Depression in Heaven (2024). She describes her music as "heaven metal", close
to slowcore and shoegaze styles, and collaborates with Mark Trecka, Susan Alcorn
