Mitty Lene Collier, born on June 21, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama, is an
American singer known for her contributions to soul music. She began singing in
church as a teenager and toured with gospel groups such as the Hayes Ensemble
and the Lloyd Reese Singers. In 1959, while visiting Chicago, Mitty Collier won
a talent show at the Regal Theater, which led to a recording contract with Chess
