Nikolaj Hess
Nikolaj Hess, born on August 29, 1967, is a Danish jazz pianist. He studied at
the Danish Academy of Rhythmic Music Conservatory from 1986 to 1990. Hess's
early breakthrough came when he won the gold prize in Berlingske Tidendes
competition of non-classical music in Copenhagen and was named the best European
jazz piano player under 25 at the RAI competition in Rome. He notably wrote the
film score for Lars Von Trier's Melancholia (2011). Hess has collaborated with
numerous artists, including Tony Moreno and Christian McBride. He was also
