P18 was a Franco-Cuban electronic and Latin music group formed in 1995 by Thomas
“Tom” Darnal, a keyboardist and former member of the French group Mano Negra.
The name of the group was derived from the letter “P” for Paris and Patchanka,
and the number “18” representing the 18th arrondissement of Paris. During the
Cargo 92 tour in South America with Mano Negra in 1992, Darnal met Barbaro
Teuntor, a trumpeter from the Cuban group Sierra Maestra. Four years later, in
1996, after Mano Negra disbanded, Darnal and Teuntor formed the new group.
