Paul Carrack, an English singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist
specializing in “blue-eyed soul,” was born in Sheffield on April 22, 1961. A
member of the bands Warm Dust, Ace, Squeeze, Roxy Music, and Mike + the
Mechanics—with whom he achieved several hits as well as recognition from his
peers and critics—he launched his solo career in 1980 with the album The
Nightbird and toured with Roger Waters before devoting himself to his own
