Paweł Szymański (born 28 March 1954 in Warsaw) is a Polish contemporary
composer whose distinctive “surconventionalist” style transforms Renaissance and
Baroque forms through rigorous modernist techniques. He studied composition with
Włodzimierz Kotoński and Tadeusz Baird in Warsaw and with Roman
Haubenstock-Ramati in Vienna, and also attended the Darmstadt New Music Courses
and worked in several electronic music studios. His major works include Partita
IV (1986), Quasi una sinfonietta (1990), Miserere (1993), Piano Concerto (1994),
Singletrack (2005) and the two-act opera Qudsj...
