Perla Batalla, born in 1964 in Los Angeles, California, is an American vocalist,
composer, and arranger. Raised by Argentinian mother Barbara and Mexican father
Jorge, both musicians who ran a record store called Discoteca Batalla, Batalla
began her musical journey at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute after
graduating from high school. Her career breakthrough came when she was
introduced to Leonard Cohen by Julie Christensen and joined his 1988 tour as a
backup singer. She continued touring with Cohen in 1993 and contributed vocals
