Parrish J. Smith, known professionally as PMD, was born on 13 May 1968 in Smithtown, New York, and pursued a career as a rap singer and producer. He grew up on Long Island and initially worked as a DJ for the Rock Squad before co‑founding the duo EPMD with Erick Sermon in 1987. After releasing four collaborative albums, Parrish J. Smith embarked on a solo career in 1992, dropping the “E” from the group name and adopting the moniker PMD, meaning Parrish Making Dollars.
