Raymond Burke
Raymond Burke, born Raymond Barrois on June 6, 1904, in New Orleans, Louisiana,
was an American jazz clarinetist. He began his musical journey with homemade
instruments before starting his career by panhandling on the kazoo in 1913.
Burke played with various ensembles throughout his career, including The Henry
Belas Orchestra and The Melon Pickers in the 1930s. In the 1940s and 1950s, he
collaborated with Alvin Alcorn and Sharkey Bonano. Later, he played with
Preservation Hall musicians in the 1960s and 1970s. His notable albums include
