Red Box, a British band formed in England in 1983, was founded by Simon Toulson-Clarke and Julian Close. The group initially performed under the name Harlequins before adopting Red Box after finding a box left behind by Slade. Their early influences included Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Marc Bolan, David Bowie, Cream, Pink Floyd, Cat Stevens, and Buffy Sainte-Marie. In 1983, they released their debut single "Chenko" on the Cherry Red label, which gained radio attention and led to a signing with Sire Records in 1984.
