Red McKenzie

Red McKenzie, born William McKenzie on October 14, 1899 in St. Louis, Missouri, was an American jazz vocalist and musician. In 1923, he founded the Mound City Blue Blowers. The group also used the name Red McKenzie and the Candy Kids and recorded with Glenn Miller, Pee Wee Russell, and Coleman Hawkins. McKenzie collaborated with Eddie Condon, Gene Krupa, and Coleman Hawkins. He worked as a music agent and became a notable figure in the 52nd Street jazz clubs, returning to New York in 1944 before dying of liver cirrhosis on February 7, 1948 at age 48.
