Riders in the Sky
Riders in the Sky, an American Western music and comedy group, began performing
in 1977 in Nashville, Tennessee, as a trio of Doug “Ranger Doug” Green, Fred
“Too Slim” LaBour, and Bill “Windy Bill” Collins, who chose the band’s name
after discovering a Sons of the Pioneers album. Their first public show on
November 11, 1977, was a success, and the group quickly secured a recording
contract, releasing Three on the Trail in 1979 and Cowboy Jubilee in 1981, which
earned a New York Times Best Ten List recognition. They joined the Grand Ole
