Robert Carr, born February 10, 1938 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Johnny
Mitchell, born December 16, 1936 in the Bronx, New York, formed the American
doo-wop duo Robert & Johnny in the late 1950s. Raised in the Bronx, both singers
developed their vocal styles while performing locally, and their first recording
contract was secured with Old Town Records. Their debut single, “We Belong
Together”, released in 1958, reached number 12 on the U.S. R&B Singles chart and
number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100, establishing the duo as a notable act in the
