The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, based in Rochester, New York, was founded
in 1922 by George Eastman, the founder of Eastman Kodak Company. The orchestra's
first music director was Eugene Goossens. In its early years, the RPO made
several recordings under names such as the Eastman-Rochester Orchestra,
featuring prominent American composers like Howard Hanson and Samuel Barber.
