Ruby Braff
Ruby Braff was born on March 16, 1927, and was an American jazz trumpeter and
cornetist from Boston, Massachusetts. He began performing in local clubs in the
1940s and joined the Edmond Hall Orchestra in 1949 before moving to New York in
1953, where he became active as a sought-after performer and recording artist.
He developed a style influenced by Louis Armstrong and Bix Beiderbecke. He
recorded extensively as a leader, co-leader, and sideman, collaborating with
musicians including Buck Clayton, Pee Wee Russell, George Barnes, Ellis Larkins,
