Japanese rock band SADS were formed in 1999 by vocalist Kiyoharu, who had
previously been the lead singer of fellow Japanese rockers Kuroyume. The group
initially consisted of guitarist Taketomo Sakashita, bassist Tetsuhiro Tanuma,
and drummer Masahiro Muta. SADS debuted with the single "Tokyo" in July 1999,
followed by their first album Sad Blood Rock 'n' Roll in September of the same
year. The band's early releases were characterised by a punk-rock sound, which
