Sergei Yakovlevich Lemeshev was a Russian opera singer and director. He began
his vocal training in Tver after leaving school in 1914 and later studied at the
Moscow Conservatory from 1921 to 1925. Lemeshev’s career advanced significantly
after he joined the Bolshoi Theatre in 1931, where he became a leading soloist
known for his lyrical tenor. His signature role was Lensky in Eugene Onegin,
