Named after the Indonesian word for “grin” (or “grimace”, depending on your
temperament), heavy metal band Seringai formed in Jakarta in 2002. After
changing bass players, the band settled on the permanent lineup of vocalist
Arian13, Ricky Siahaan on guitar, Sammy Bramantyo on bass, and Edy Khemod on
drums. The band released its debut EP, High Octane Rock, in 2004. The title also
serves as an apt description of the band’s hard-charging sound, which brings to
mind the propulsive momentum of gut-punching bands like High on Fire and
Motorhead.
