Slavko Avsenik, born November 26, 1929, in Begunje, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, was a
Slovenian composer and accordionist. He initially pursued ski jumping but taught
himself to play the piano accordion during military service. In 1953, he formed
the Slavko Avsenik Trio with guitarist Mitja Butara and bassist Borut Finzgar.
With his brother Vilko Ovsenik, Avsenik founded a new group, which became known
as the Gorenjski Quintet, creating the "Oberkrainer sound." Their breakthrough
