A cult group from Detroit's underground hip-hop scene, formed in 1996, Slum Village have distinguished themselves by their erudite approach to music, incorporating samples of jazz, funk and soul into their tracks, in the same way as A Tribe Called Quest, their benchmark. Their career spanned eight albums, some of which were reissued in the early 2000s.
