Sonny West
Joseph Sonny West, known as Sonny West, and born 30 July 1937 near Lubbock,
Texas, was a songwriter and musician. In 1956, he formed a band with Jimmy Metz,
Doc McKay, and Buddy Smith, and recorded "Rock‑Ola Ruby" and "Sweet Rockin’
Baby" at KLVT; the single sold 700 copies. Buddy Holly’s 1957 cover of West’s
"All My Love" as "Oh, Boy!" reached number 10 in the United States and number 3
in the United Kingdom. West followed with "Rave On" (1958), peaking at number 37
