Widely regarded as one of the best-selling J-rock acts of all time, Southern All Stars formed in the Kanagawa Prefecture in 1977. Its original lineup consisted of lead singer and guitarist Keisuke Kuwata, keyboardist Yuko Hara, bass player Kazuyuki Sekiguchi, drummer Hiroshi Matsuda, percussionist Hideyuki "Kegani" Nozawa, and guitarist Takashi Omori, who left the group in 2001. "Katte ni Sindbad," their debut single, appeared in 1978 and reached Number 3 on the Oricon charts.
