Steve James, born July 15, 1950, in Manhattan, New York City, was an American
folk-blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He learned to play the National
steel guitar, mandolin, and banjo as an adolescent while listening to blues
recordings from his father's collection. His early recordings include Two Track
Mind (1993), American Primitive (1994), and Art & Grit (1996). In 2000, Burnside
Records issued Boom Chang, followed by Fast Texas (2003), which showcased his
