Formed in New York in the mid-1970s, Tarika Blue was a fusion and jazz-funk band
founded by keyboardist Phil Clendeninn. The group’s music embraced spiritual and
mystical jazz and blended it with their pop, soul, and funk foundation. Along
with Phil Clendeninn, the core of the group also included bassist Barry Coleman
and drummer Kevin Atkins. The rest of Tarika Blue’s line-up featured saxophone
players Marvin Blackman (tenor) and Justo Almario (soprano), and guitarists Ryo
