Ted Rosenthal, born in 1959 in Great Neck, Long Island, New York, is an American jazz pianist. He began playing piano by ear at a young age and started formal studies at 12 with Tony Aless. Rosenthal pursued classical piano studies at Manhattan School of Music while continuing his jazz pursuits outside the classroom. His career breakthrough came in 1988 when he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, leading to the release of his album as a leader, New Tunes, New Traditions, which featured Ron Carter, Billy Higgins, and Tom Harrell.
