Theodore Guy Buckner, known professionally as Ted Buckner, was an American swing alto saxophonist born on December 14, 1913, in St. Louis, Missouri. He began his musical journey in Detroit, where he started working with local bands before joining McKinney's Cotton Pickers. Buckner joined Jimmie Lunceford's band from 1937 to 1943. After leaving Lunceford, he performed and recorded with various bands in Detroit until the 1970s, including his own formations and a co-led big band with Jimmy Wilkins.
