Tex Owens
Tex Owens, born Doie Hensley Owens on June 15, 1892, in Killeen, Texas, was an
American country music singer and songwriter. He grew up in a musically talented
family, which included his sister, Texas Ruby. In his early teens, he spent a
year with a traveling tent show as a blackface singer before working in
oilfields and as a farmhand, mechanic, and lawman. He returned to music while
hospitalized for an appendectomy in Lamar, Colorado, where he entertained
