Vocalist Hiroto Kōmoto and guitarist Masatoshi Mashima formed the The
Cro-Magnons in 2006 in Tokyo, Japan. Both musicians were veterans of the
Japanese rock scene, having previously performed with The High-Lows and The Blue
Hearts. With bassist Masaru Kobayashi and drummer Katsuji Kirita completing the
lineup, The Cro-Magnons released their debut single, "Tariho," in September
2006. The song reached Number 3 on the Oricon Singles chart and was followed by
the band's self-titled debut album, The Cro-Magnons, which peaked at Number 4.
