The Ex
A Dutch band born out of the ashes of punk, The Ex's do-it-yourself style is
noisy and improvisational, with a social and political commitment at its core.
Present since day one in 1979, guitarist Terrie Hessels has seen a succession of
singers (G.W. Sok until 2009, Katherina Bornefeld) and collaborators, from
cellist Tom Cora to Sonic Youth and Tortoise. The albums Tumult (1983),
Pokkeherrie (1985) and Joggers & Smoggers (1989) are the most significant of the
thirty or so released by these veterans of the post-punk scene.
