Formed in London in 1985 by former members of The Sid Presley Experience, The
Godfathers, led by brothers Peter and Chris Doyle, built up a fine stage
reputation before releasing their masterpiece Birth, School, Work, Death in
1988. Relatively neglected on its release, this second album was rehabilitated
with each successive reissue. 1989's More Songs About Love and Hate continued
the efforts of a band overwhelmed by the Britpop wave of the 1990s. After
splitting up and reforming in 2008, The Godfathers toured intensively, releasing
the comeback album Jukebox Fury in 2013.
