The Need was an American queercore band formed in Portland, Oregon, in 1995 by
Rachel Carns and Radio Sloan. The duo initially gained attention with their
debut EP, Margie Ruskie Stops Time, on Kill Rock Stars. In 1997, they released a
second EP and moved to Olympia, Washington, signing with Chainsaw Records for
their self-titled debut album, The Need. The group's post-punk art rock style,
combined with Carns' distinctive artwork, set them apart. They collaborated
