The Rip Chords were an American vocal group formed in 1962, originally called
the Opposites and composed of Ernie Bringas and Phil Stewart. After meeting at
Inglewood High School, the pair secured a contract with Columbia Records in
Hollywood, where they released their debut single "Here I Stand" on 17 December
1962; the track peaked at Number 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1963. In
1963 the duo issued "Gone", which reached Number 88 on the national chart. By
