The Shams were a New York trio formed in the 1980s, comprising
Amy McMahon Rigby, Sue Garner, and Amanda Uprichard, who met while performing in
the band Last Roundup. Their breakthrough came with the 1990 single "Only a
Dream"/"3 A.M." released on Bob Mould’s Singles Only label. They later signed
with Matador Records and issued the album Quilt in 1991, followed by the 1993 EP
Sedusia. The group toured with the Indigo Girls, Soul Asylum, and Buffalo Tom.
