The Strangers were an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne, Victoria, in
1961. The original line-up comprised Laurie Arthur, Peter Robinson, Graeme
"Garth" Thompson, and Fred Wieland. The band achieved its first charting single
with an instrumental cover of “The Cry of the Wild Goose” in 1963, which reached
number 12 on the Melbourne charts. In 1964, John Farrar replaced Arthur on lead
guitar, and the band released the collaborative studio album Colin Cook and the
