The Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, founded in Nagoya, Japan as the Ito Kimono Shop Boys' Music Band in 1911, is a professional symphony orchestra. The ensemble relocated to Tokyo in 1938 and adopted its current title post-World War II. Under Manfred Gurlitt's direction, the orchestra premiered notable operas such as Aida and Lohengrin.
