actress. Her father, Robert Herr, was a locomotive driver who was imprisoned in
Nazi concentration camps due to his communist affiliations. After her family's
apartment was destroyed during World War II, Trude worked as a typist and later
in tourism before turning to acting. Herr's breakthrough in music came in 1958
