Finland's Turisas use a very Viking iconography for their power folk metal,
probably in memory of Finland's former membership of the Kingdom of Sweden.
Formed in 1997, Turisas gained recognition with their debut album Battle Metal
in 2004, so much so that "battle metal" is now used to describe the band's
style. With The Varangian Way, Turisas' heroic saga travels the world, supported
by stage costumes worthy of the days of the longships. Stand Up and Fight in
2011 confirms the resolutely bellicose vein of a band not to be underestimated.
