Vaughn Wilton Monroe, born on October 7, 1911 in Akron, Ohio, was an American singer and big band leader known for his baritone voice. He graduated from Jeannette High School in Pennsylvania in 1929. Vaughn Monroe formed his first orchestra in Boston in 1940 and began recording for RCA Victor's subsidiary label, Bluebird. His breakthrough came with the release of "Racing With the Moon" (1941), which sold over 1 million copies by 1952 and was awarded a gold disc by the RIAA.
